China Digital Times (CDT) Grass-Mud Horse Lexicon is the premier place to go for Chinese netizen language designed to avoid the censors and to poke fun at the political system. Over the years, CDT has accumulated 273 entries in its Grass-Mud Horse Lexicon.  From these, the CDT editors have selected 71 essential items for inclusion in The Grass-Mud Horse Lexicon: Classic Netizen Language, which has just been published. Here's the Kindle edition on Amazon. We've looked at some of these items on Language Log, from the pesky River Crab to the mythical Grass-Mud Horse itself. Less than a week ago, Jason Q. Ng's Blocked on Weibo, which perfectly complements The Grass-Mud Horse Lexicon: Classic Netizen Language, was published to warm acclaim, including here on Language Log. Jason Q. Ng and Anne Henochowicz (Translation Coordinator for CDT) were interviewed by the CBC yesterday about Blocked on Weibo.  Together, their two new books give a really fine introduction to the labyrinthine world of China's blogs and microblogs, one which would be impenetrable to outsiders without such specialized manuals to guide them on their way.
