Nineteen years and counting in Papua New Guinea: A taste of things to come, from RD Tuna

We'd like to thank RD Tuna for giving us a taste of our Madang Industrial Zone future.   In case there is doubt remaining about the environmental (not to mention social and maritime) impact of a Chinese-dominated Madang Industrial Zone, as proposed, let's first have a look at some of China's industrial zones : Recently Olivier Pollet, filmmaker of the award winning documentary Canning Paradise (about Madang's RD Tuna), captured a few shots of one of RD's oil drum dumps, about 75 m from the RD fishing wharf and pretty pungent for anyone within a wide arc of the area. There have never been olfactory controls at RD, as we all know, but this is even more malodorous Olivier says. Should give us a gimpse of what an industrial zone will provide for Rempi and all of Madang in some not-too-distant future.
