It is final year exhibition time at CAFA. We went to see the painting exhibition. There was lots is amazing work. There were two pieces to which I really responded. The first was the brightly coloured satirical painting of various iconic Western art paintings by Aries Wang. It was positioned as the highlight of the show so I am sure he will have a bright future as an artist. The other painting were these apocalyptic sci-if + traditional Chinese landscape paintings by Cong Yunfeng. We met with one of Zhou Bo's classmates teaching in the printing department. We visited the printing exhibition where I really resonated with the white out prints of Teng Jiao. We then visited the print studios where students were sleeping in their seats from exhaustion. We went to the photography studio, the sculpture studio (where all of the students were male) and they are working on this large monumental frieze, the automotive studio run by Edward Wong. He is a graduate of CalArts so spoke fluent English. They were preparing for a presentation of revisioning of a 1930's Chinese car brand used by the Premier. He is a big believer in analogue methods in car design, so he showed me their sketches and full scale interior prototypes. We visited Wang Min's studio, where I met "the most handsome lecturer at CAFA" in the words of the female students. He did remind me of Nichkhun of 2pm. Most people were not in as it was the end of school. We met with a photographer whose work I saw at 978 district last year. We went together all four of us for dinner at a family style restaurant. There was a challenge ordering a vegetarian meal, but we finally succeeded although we ordered fresh fish. The waitress brought the still moving fish to the table before it came back later as soup. Now that's fresh. We returned to CAFA and bought things at the second hand market. I bought trinkets that I had admired before. Everyone else bought books.
