Today's lecture was disappointing as less than a third of the students showed up. Since I have no context for understanding how the selected the unit or what other courses they have, it just makes me feel really bad. You know how you blame yourself. I should have worked harder at learning Chinese. Maybe I am boring. Maybe they are not interested. Maybe I should go home because this is not going to work. With students coming in and out, there is no consistency. All of my classes operate as a build so if you miss something, you miss it all.
I realise that I have so much vanity about my lecturing skills. I guess it is taking a hard knock today.
The lecture was short. I did the whiteboard work in English and Mandarin, which is helping me pick up the language. I showed them a great presentation on the VA-Bib with great student examples.
I will go over the method cards and the VA-bib in the tutorial. But I think we will spend most of the afternoon in the library.
I am normally energised by lecturing, but I just feel drained. :(
